Children's Worship

Children's Worship

Children's Worship at the American Church in Paris strives be a welcoming, inclusive environment in which children meet Jesus, grow together in His love, and are made to feel that they are full, participating members of the Body of Christ.

We invite all children ages 3-11 to participate in Children's Worship each Sunday at the 11h00 and 13h30 services of the American Church (with breaks corresponding with the French public school holidays). If you would like your child to participate in our program, please register him or her here.

Here at ACP, we call our time with our youngest disciples "Children's Worship" for a reason: although children may approach worship differently than adults, their worship matters to God, and it matters to us. We structure their time in their worship spaces to honor the unique ways that children have of approaching God and His Word. We use a combination of Godly Play, God’s People Celebrate, God’s Big Picture, and Connect curricula to engage children in the biblical narrative and meaningful liturgy through prayer, storytelling, art, games, movement, and age-appropriate discussion.

Children’s Worship strives for inclusiveness. We welcome all children regardless of their spoken language, denominational background, or level of ability. Because God has blessed all human beings with unique skills and talents, we engage children in the classroom using a variety of learning styles so that all children feel that the stories of God are easily accessible to them. We also offer various individualized options for participation under the direction of Special Education Consultant, Lauretta Haugh. If your child requires one-on-one adult attention in a classroom setting, a Worship Buddy (volunteer adult or youth aide) can be provided; please contact our director for more information.

Children’s Worship also sponsors Family Ministry Events throughout the year including workshops, family service opportunities, our annual Christmas pageant, social events, and our annual Vacation Bible School. We also offer yearly family communion classes, taught by Pastor Michelle Wahila, for families with children who wish to partake in the Eucharist but who have not yet participated in Confirmation classes. Please check out our calendar for upcoming events: link under development.

Our program would not be possible without the participation of our dedicated team of adult and youth worship leaders. We offer flexible scheduling options for volunteer participation, so please prayerfully consider whether God is calling you to serve in this ministry.

For more information, or to express an interest in becoming a Children’s Worship leader, please contact our Director of Children’s Ministries here.

Introducing our Director of Children's Ministry

Allison Wheeler — Director of Children's Ministry

Allison Wheeler Allison attended Ohio Wesleyan University, graduating with degrees in Religion and Theatre in 2008. After graduation Allison remained in her hometown of Columbus, Ohio, teaching theater classes for children and teens at various institutions and working as a Volunteer Management Intern for the Available Light Theatre Co. During this time she was also heavily involved in the youth program at Northwest Christian Church.

Allison and her husband, Jonathan, came to Paris in January of 2011 after he accepted a post-doctorate research position in physics here. Since that time she has been involved in both the youth and Children’s Worship ministries at ACP. She also began work towards her Masters of Divinity at Phillips Theological Seminary in the fall of 2011.

Allison and Jonathan are the proud parents of Josephine Elizabeth.

In her free time Allison enjoys exploring Paris’ beautiful museums, parks, and churches, as well as cooking, reading, and singing (although these days it’s mostly rounds of “Old MacDonald” to keep the baby entertained). She also enjoys spending time with her family travelling and seeking new adventures.

You can contact Allison here.
